The Event

The Rose City Sing-Off is a great event, showcasing some of the area’s leading high school a cappella groups. The Rose City Sing-Off is a chance for young talent to perform in front of judges as well as friends and families. Groups will experience Master classes provided by the University of Oregon Mind The Gap in the morning to further their experience, as well as networking with other schools throughout the day.

The 2023 Rose City Sing-Off will be held Saturday April 27, 2024 at Sherwood High School.

SHERWOOD HIGH SCHOOL – MIXOLYDIANS – 2022 1st Place Winner

The Sherwood High School Mixolydians are fun-loving musicians from Sherwood Oregon. In addition to singing, they love spending time together just as much as they love creating crowd-pleasing choreography. The Mixolydians have been participating in the ICHSA competitions for the past nine years, and placed 1st at the quarter-final competition in 2020 and most recently placed 3rd in the 2022 ICHSA event. The Mixolydians have also enjoyed performing at the Bend Acappella festival the last few years which was a huge highlight working with Deke Sharon! They are proud of multiple awards over the years for best beatboxer, best arrangement, and best choreography. The Mixolydians are so happy to be back performing at the Rose City Sing off! This event has been such a great experience for the group and we are beyond excited to see all the fine groups perform live this evening!

West Salem High School’s Soundscape has been a prominent high school vocal group in the jazz, chamber music, and contemporary a cappella music community since the opening of the high school. They have traveled nationally to vocal events and competitions and are excited to continue the tradition of excellence. Recently, they placed 2nd at the ICHSA West Quarter Final event and will be traveling to El Segundo, California to compete in semi-finals.

Sound Check is Oregon City High School’s premier vocal ensemble comprised of 18 friends who love making music together. In the last 7 years since the ensemble’s creation, Sound Check has enjoyed developing their sound and presence in the community. The ensemble has released 3 albums that can be found on iTunes and all streaming services. The most recent album released in 2022 is titled “Ignite”. The group is excited about new adventures into recording and creating music videos that can be found on the OCHS Choir YouTube channel.

Microphonics is a student-led group from Cottage Grove High School. After having a rough time regrouping after covid, things are going better than ever after performing in their local Rhythm & Blues Revue, with music arranged by their own Char Hawks. Today they will perform another song also arranged by Char, and would like to recognize Quinn Branstetter and Wisper Pilling for choreography. They are excited to be at the Rose City sing-off once again!

Ascend! is the premiere vocal ensemble at South Albany High School. These students meet at 6:40 every weekday morning, always striving to improve their skills, their music, and their personal bond together. Ascend! has had the privilege to entertain audiences all over the mid-Willamette Valley in many concerts and community events. Previous versions of Ascend! have sung at Walt Disney World, Pearl Harbor, Bend A Cappella Festival, ICHSA, as well as our favorite festival, the Rose City Sing-Off!

Nothing But Treble is Westview High School’s all-treble voiced group. They are a student led contemporary a cappella group that takes pride in their community and love for singing. This will be NBT’s first year back at Rose City Sing-off since Covid and they could not be more excited for this opportunity! NBT has recently made local TV appearances and performed at multiple charity events around Portland. NBT was founded over a decade ago and we are so proud to continue the legacy that NBT has left at Westview High School. NBT performs music arranged by their own music director and they are ecstatic to share their original arrangements and choreography with all of you.

Something Dangerous is the advanced vocal ensemble from McNary High School in Keizer, OR. The group is a combination of Something Blue, a treble vocal ensemble, and the DangerTones, a bass vocal ensemble. This primarily student led group is made up of Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.
